The Self Made Man

One of my favorite past times is carving, more specifically, caricature carving. I enjoy taking a block of wood and turning it into a piece of art. I've been a woodworker for years building mainly furniture, and while I still like doing that, there is not a lot of new styles you can do that some one hasn't done already. That's what I like about carving, I'm free to express my self in the piece, I don't have to follow a set of plans just the picture that I've developed I my head. This love I have for carving is part of why I gave the name "By His Hands" to my blog, I love making things with my hands, but the other reason is that I have been created by and saved by the hands of God.
But I digress, my latest carving is one that was rumbling around in my head for awhile and is called "Self Made Man", I think you'll see why in the
picture. I hop
e you like it.

Dad thats SO awesome. I love him. Especially the dripping paint. I kinda see a resemblence to his creator. And you are getting kind of fancy with the nice bases and the little plaques now. Really cool.

Mari showed him to me the other day- what a great idea! He would be just perfect if he had a bandage on his head!!

Hello Bob,
Nice to meet you. I'm blogging as a spin off to my daughters, and have met your sweet wife that way. My site looks like yours, but yours is better with more pictures.

Lucky thing you had a nurse in the house to look at your split open noggin head! Hope that feels better. Don't feel bad, I've done similar things before, too. Once at the hospital (I'm a nurse, too), I raised up under a towel bar on the bathroom door (it had swung closed on it's own while I was bending over to pick something up off the floor), anyway, I laid the top of my head open on it when I stood up. My coworkers made me go to the emergency room where they stapled my head! Ouch. You don't want to experience that.

Your carvings are terrific. I'm going to show your site to my hubby. You and he have some things in common, I think. He has worked at the building supply store for many years. He appreciates woodworking and carving, but hasn't gotten into it. Maybe he will soon, or when he retires. We don't know yet when that is going to be.

Mari and I are lucky ladies to have good husbands like you two.

I hope you will continue with the blog. I hope I will with mine, too.

Bob, that is so awesome! You have a talent besides picking out "Bob's Beige" at the paint dept. at the hardware store.

You should try and sell those things. Or are you doing one of a kind?

Kinda cool how it looks like he is carving himself out.

My hubby, looked at your site, and he thought it was neat. I could tell he really appreciated your carvings. He said, "Good for him" in a way that told me he thought it was way cool. So far, he just enjoys reading. The blog bug hasn't infected him yet. Maybe some day!
